Cube Box 1 User Guide

Introduction

Cube Box 1 is a spatial photo frame that transforms your everyday photos into immersive 3D experiences. Here’s what makes it unique:

  • 2D to 3D: Upload any 2D photo, and Cube Box 1 automatically transforms it into a stunning spatial image with just a few clicks.
  • Sketch to 3D: Create a rough sketch, and it will generate a 3D model that you can explore on our spatial display.
  • Magic Photo: Upload a 2D photo and watch it turn into a spatial video—think of it as a real-life “magic” photo experience.

A WiFi network connection is required for the Box 1 to function.

Getting Started

Turn on the Cube Box 1 using the power button on the back of the display.

The Box 1 will prompt to connect to the network:

Once connected, press the back arrow from the WiFi network screen to proceed with connecting to the Box 1.

Point your mobile phone’s camera towards QR shown on the Box 1. Tap the decoded website link to the CubeVi Spatial Experiance web portal.

A page similar to this should be loaded in your mobile phone’s web browser:

An account must be associated with the Box 1 unit in order to fully manage media and settings for the device. Without logging in, media can only be added or viewed.

The Privacy Policy must be agreed to before using the portal.

Two options for logging in are provided:

  • Login with email - Provide an email address, press “get code”, and an email will be delivered with a login code number. Enter the login code number in the browser to complete registration and logging in.
  • Login with Google - Use your Google ID to log into the Spatial Experience. Your Google ID’s email address be used to complete the login process.

The email provided will be used for Cube Box 1 related notifications.

When idle, the Box 1 by default displays media provided by CubeVi. Tapping the right side of the display will advance to the next media item. Tapping the left side of the display will display the preceding media item.

A settings menu is accessible from the Settings Button icon in the upper right corner of the display.

Spatial Experience Web Portal

The CubeVi Spatial Experience website enables adding new media to the Box 1 device.

There are 3 kinds of media that can be added from the front page:

  1. Spatial photo
  2. Sketch to 3D Model
  3. Magic photo

Spatial Photo

Spatial Photo turns a regular 2D photo into an image with depth.

Tapping the Spatial Photo button will prompt to select a photo on your mobile phone. Select the photo to be turned into a spatial photo.

After selecting, the editing screen will be displayed:

Move and resize the blue bounding box to crop the image to the correct aspect ratio.

Rotate the image using the Media Rotate Icon box with arrow button.

Cropping and rotation are reset using the Media Reset Icon circular arrow button.

When ready, press the “OK” button to process the image to a 3D spatial image. Use the back arrow button in the upper left to cancel and the “Reselect” button in the upper right to choose a new image.

Wait for the image to be processed into a 3D spatial image and sent to the device. A countdown on the Box 1 is displayed while the image is processing.

Sketch to 3D Model

Sketch to 3D Model turns a hand drawn sketch into a 3D model.

By default, touching the white canvas will draw a black line.

There are 4 action buttons:

  • Undo Icon Undo - Remove the last line drawn.
  • Clear Canvas Icon Clear - Deletes all drawing from the canvas.
  • Draw Circle Icon Circle - Tap and hold the desired center of the circle and then drag your finger away from the center until the circle is the desired size. Lift to set the shape.
  • Draw Rectangle Icon Rectangle - tap and hold a starting corner of the rectangle and then drag your finger away in a diagonal direction until the rectangle is the desired size and shape. Lift to set the shape.

When the picture is finished, tap “OK”.

Provide a description for the picture:

Naming Sketch Dialog

This will help with styling of the 3D model. Wait about 1 minute for the sketch to be transformed into a 3D object.

The resulting 3D object will resemble your sketch but may include elements that you did not directly draw including additional details.

Magic Photo

Magic Photo turns a regular 2D photo into a short spatial video.

Tapping the Magic Photo button will prompt to select a photo on your mobile phone. Select the photo to be turned into a magic photo.

After selecting, the editing screen will be displayed:

The controls are the same as for a Spatial Photo.

When the image is ready, tap the “OK” button.

Add a description for the image:

The description will help in creating the spatial video.

Wait for processing to complete. It may take several minutes. An email will be sent when the photo has been processed.

If there is a problem with processing, you will be notified by email. Please try a different photo. The problem photo will be grayed out and the only option is to delete it.

Spatial Experience Settings

Selecting “Manage My Box 1” from the CubeVi Spatial Experience landing page allow for managing media and content related setting.

Main Controls

At the top of the screen are general controls:

  • - Return to the Spatial Experience landing page.
  • log out - Log out of your account from the browser. This does not affect your account’s association with a particular Box 1 device.

At the bottom of the screen are media and settings controls:

  • Create Create a work - Upload a photo to create a spatial photo or magic photo. Sketch to create a 3D object.
  • View View on device - Show the selected photo on the device.
  • Delete Delete - Remove the selected photo from your library.
  • Set up - Additional media options

Tapping the Setup Button Set up button brings up a dialog:

Permission

  • Visitors can create without logging in - When using the QR code to access the Box 1’s Spatial Experience webpage, users can upload content without logging in. Users that are not logged in cannot manage content they uploaded. The new content will show up under the user currently logged into that particular Box
  • Login is required to create - When logged in, a secondary user can add content and select existing content on a device. They cannot delete content or access the settings.
  • Proportion of recommended content - When “Play recommended media” is selected on the Box 1, this slider determines how freqently the recommended content appears. This can range from 10% to 90% of content displayed, mixed in with the user’s own content that has been uploaded.

Settings Screen

Pressing the Settings Button icon in the upper right corner of the Box 1 brings up the Settings screen which includes the QR code for accessing the CubeVi Spatial Experience web portal.

  • Auto play - Will automatically advance to another media after a set wait time.
  • Play interval - Selects the wait time between showing the next media. The default is 1 minute. Times range from 10 seconds to up to 15 minutes.
  • Play media on this device - Enables playing media that the user has uploaded through the CubeVi Spatial Experience portal.
  • Play recommended media - Enables playing sample media from CubeVi on this device.

At least one of “Play media on this device” or “Play recommended media” needs to be selected.

It may take some time after selecting one of the playback options before content is added or removed from the device. Once content is added, it is locally cached.

The Set Up Button Set up button provides system settings that are not meant to be accessed frequently.

Set Up Screen

The Set Up Screen provides information about the device.

  • Username - Display of the currently logged in user.
  • WiFi network - Shows the currently connected WiFi network. Tapping allows for changing to a different network.
  • Brightness - Set the screen brightness level, from 0 to 100%.
  • Speaker volume - Set the speaker volume, from 0 to 100%.
  • Language - Set languages and order of preference.
  • RealPlay OS version - Displays the current version installed. Selecting will check for an update, if available.
  • Shutdown - Power off the Cube Box 1.

Battery level and charging status is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen.

The Curved Back Arrow in the upper left corner of the screen dismisses the Set Up and Settings Screens and returns to the currently playing media.
